The PowerFlex 40 series AC drives are some of the most compact AC drives available from Allen-Bradley. This series of drives are available in power ratings from 0.25 to 15 Horsepower and they support multiple voltage classes including 120, 240, 480, and 600 Volts AC. Typical applications for PowerFlex 40 drives include conveyors, fans, pumps, and machine tools. The drive power ratings for the respective voltage classes are 0.5 to 1.5 Horsepower for 100 to 120 Volts AC, 0.5 to 10 Horsepower for 200 to 240 Volts AC, 0.5 to 15 Horsepower for 380 to 480 Volts AC, and 1 to 15 Horsepower for 500 to 600 Volts AC. Supported control algorithms include the process PID, vector control, and sensorless vector control. Support for StepLogic allows the PowerFlex 40 drives to be used as position controllers. Drive configuration options include an integrated LCD and a keypad, a remote keypad, or PC-based software.
All PowerFlex 40 drives come with 1 integrated RS-485 communication port. Additionally, several communication modules are available as options from Allen-Bradley, and these include the BACnet, Ethernet, DeviceNet, and ControlNet modules. The PowerFlex 40 drives are available in multiple enclosure types, including the IP 20, IP 66, open, plate drive, and the flange-mounted enclosures. The maximum ambient temperature around a PowerFlex 40 drive should be kept below 50 degrees Celsius. The mains supply should be isolated from the line inputs prior to any working on the PowerFlex 40 drives. Waiting 3 minutes is required after the mains supply disconnection for the complete discharge of the high-voltage capacitors on the drive. ESD control procedures should be followed to minimize the risk of equipment damage.
