The 1784-PKTX Series B interface card is a network interface card from Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation family. These interface cards are used for connecting PCs to PLC controllers on the Data Highway Plus or SLC processors for easy programming and data acquisition. The interface card is equipped with an I/O scanner functionality that can be actively used for soft control or with the embedded control engines. These cards are essential where programming, configuration, and monitoring features are needed. It is a bus communication card which uses the Allen-Bradley 1171-WN wiring arm for operation. The 1784-PKTX Series B interface card does not require any external power to run. It uses a maximum of 4 modules per system. A single diagnosis LED is available on the card which gives status updates per channel. The outer surface of the network interface card comes with a conformal coating. The network card supports the Microsoft Windows 95/NT operating system.
The 1784-PKTX Series B interface card has a typical AC signal delay of 29 milliseconds and a DC signal delay of 30 milliseconds. It supports the 1A 3-pin phoenix system for DH+ connection and Remote I/O and a 1C 6-pin phoenix system for a DH-485 communication adapter. This Series B device is equipped with an RIO scanner that works for a single channel only. The 1784-PKTX Series B interface card can perform data transmission, management, and local network diagnostics. The interface to the host processor is done by using a board-resident dual-port memory unit. The network is compliant with the PCI bus. This card was developed for a plug and play functionality. The network interface card can only be used at a temperature range between 0 and 60 degrees Celsius. It can withstand shocks and vibrations of 30 G and 2 G, respectively in operating mode.

The Allen-Bradley 1784-PKTX is a network interface cards that directly mounts to a Peripheral Connect Interconnect (PCI) port of a personal computer. This card supports PCI bus version 2.3 and allows the host computer to connect to a Data Highway Plus (DH+), Remote I/O (RIO) or DH-485 communication network. This card may be used to interface with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) for implementing process visualization.
It has a single channel DH+ / RIO combo port, labelled as channel 1A and DH-485 communication interface labelled as Channel 1C. DH+ and RIO supports long distance communication with specific coverage limited by the transfer rate. Specifically, 10,000 ft. (3048 m) @ 57.6K bit/s; 5, 000 ft. (1,524 m) @ 115.2K bits/s and 2,500 ft. (762 m) @ 230.4K bits/s. For DH-485, maximum distance that may be covered is 4,000 ft. (1219 m) @ 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600 or 19,200 bits/s.
The 1784-PKTX comes with 1 diagnostic/status LED per channel and supports a maximum of Four (4) modules per system, specified by the jumper configuration. Drive development may be configured in variety of ways and depends on the operating system.
For other Operating Systems, a user-specific Driver must be created. The module uses the RSLinx PKTx driver for devices connected to either the DH+ or the DH-485 Network, and it can connect to DH+ devices, using the 10 feet (3.2 meters) CP12 cable which has a 3-pin Phoenix End with Switchable Termination resistor. Also, the module uses the 1784-CP14 cable, which is a 6 pin Phoenix Connector with switchable termination resistor to connect to an SLC on DH-485 Network. The 1784-PKTX has varying connection lengths with corresponding transfer rates, at 10,000 feet, the communication rate is at the 57.6K bit/s, at 5,000 feet, it is 115.2K bits/s, and at 2,500 feet, it is 230.4K bits/s. Connection rates on the DH-485 network at 4,000 feet is 1200 bits/s, 9600 bits/s or 19,200 bits/s, and for the Remote I/O is 230.4K bit/s at 2,500 feet through 57.6K bit/s at 10,000 feet. The module has a single LED status/Diagnostic indicator per channel, and BUS communication meets Local PCI compliance. The 1784-PKTX module has a working temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius (32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit) at a tested 5 to 95% relative humidity without condensation, and it is rated for withstanding an operational shock of 30G and a vibration of 2G at 10 to 500 Hertz.
