The 1785-ENET Series C communication module that has been designed and manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation is made to process messages from other machines connected to them on the same network, even if the machines are in different parts of the factory or industrial plant. As many as 4 of these modules can be connected to the same communication system. The 1785-ENET Series C communication module has a conformal coating to protect it from small particles of debris, small amounts of water, and certain kinds of chemicals. This module can connect directly to an Allen-Bradley PLC-5 processor on channel 3 of the PLC-5. It does not need an external power source. The users can wire this communication module easily with the Allen-Bradley 1771-WN wiring arm. The 1785-ENET Series C communication module weighs about 0.3 pounds or 0.1 kilograms.

The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1785-ENET Series C communication module has LEDs that act as status indicators for the module. There is 1 LED indicator for each channel on the module and these LEDs let the uses know which channels are powered up, in use, or experiencing problems. To configure the 1785-ENET Series C communication module for Ethernet communication with an Allen-Bradley PLC, designate Channel 3A on the PLC as the supporting channel and make sure that the programming software supports configuration for Channel 3A. This communication module is also capable of ControlNet communication with Allen-Bradley ControlNet 1.5 PLC-5 processors. The approximate dimensions of this communication module are 4.5 x 12.4 x 6.3 inches.
