About 2201/02-01

The Bently Nevada/General Electric 2201/02-01 is a vibration monitoring system. When mounting the 2201/02-01 vibration monitoring system or any other Bently Nevada system, all of the recommended grounding procedures should be followed. Failure to properly ground the 2201/02-01 vibration monitoring system may lead to the presence of electrical noise or transients. Electrical noise and transients caused by poor grounding may be random in the time and frequency of their occurrences. As such, it becomes hard to solve transient-induced complications which may damage the motor. Additionally, electrical noise caused by grounding problems has wave shapes that are hard to capture or analyze.

Therefore, to protect the 2201/02-01 vibration monitoring system from grounding problems, use surge protective devices to limit surge voltages in the AC power and prevent the data signal circuits from drawing electrical noise from the power circuits connected to the 2201/02-01 vibration monitoring system. This can be achieved by observing the proper procedures for routing and grounding the field wiring and branch circuits and by separating the data signal wiring and the power wiring. Also, the 2201/02-01 vibration monitoring system should be grounded from a single point to ensure proper signal shielding. When grounding the 2201/02-01 vibration monitoring system, the technicians should be experts who understand the differences between the ground, ground bus, dirty ground, clean ground, intrinsic safe ground, and the instrument system ground. The Bently Nevada 2201/02-01 vibration monitoring system belongs to the wider General Electric 2201 series of monitoring systems. This series of monitoring systems use a specifically-designed backplane that mounts inside the Allen-Bradley 1771 universal I/O chassis that is in front of but not connected to the chassis backplane. The backplane provides the interconnection between the system monitor and each of the 4-channel monitors. Note that the backplane has 6 different configurations.
