The Allen Bradley 1746-OA16 is an output module that integrates seamlessly into SLC 500 control systems. This device operates effectively across a voltage spectrum of 120/240V AC, enabling it to suit various industrial applications. It is equipped with 16 outputs, and these are organized into common groups, supporting up to 8 points per common.
The module supports an operating voltage range of 85 to 265V AC, promoting versatility tailored for diverse environments. It is compatible with a frequency range of 47 to 63 Hz, ensuring stable performance in typical conditions.
To manage power consumption, this module consumes 0.37 Amps from a 5V DC backplane. Significant electrical characteristics include a 1 ms on-signal delay when handling maximum resistive loads, providing timely activation of connected devices. Conversely, the off-signal delay is reported at 11 ms under similar load conditions.
When it comes to load requirements, the module specifies a minimum load current of 10 mA to activate the outputs appropriately. It can also handle up to 10 Amps of surge current per output for a brief duration of 25 milliseconds. Finally, the module has a maximum off-state leakage of 2 mA, underscoring its efficiency in power management.

Yes. The 1746-OA16 has Two (2) of Eight (8) channels each.
The 1746-OA16 only occupies One (1) slot of the chassis.
The 1746-OA16 is supplied with a removable terminal.
The 1746-OA16 is a 85-265 VAC discrete output module that makes a false to true transitions using TRIAC switches
Individual card troubleshooting
Ensure card is seen in backplane
Visually inspect the cards, TRIAC switches, heat sink and resistors
Check to see that the pins are straight and able to plug into the backplane
In this demonstration we will be using:
1747-A7
1747-L553
1746-P2
Ohm meter
Note: If the card is giving an error code try unplugging the rack and plugging it back in. If this does not work, the card is bad and should be replaced.
Add the card into I/O configuration
Go online
Go into output table
We’ll be testing output 0
Apply test leads to VAC 1 and OUT 0
We should get OL or a very large Ohm reading
As long as the reading is this high the card will still be functional
The light on the card will illuminate
We get a much lower reading once the output is turned on
This will mean the card is Good
