The ControlLogix comm modules from Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation are made for creating communication links between devices through system connections. The ControlLogix system supports connections such as controller to local I/O modules and local communication modules connections, controller to remote I/O/remote communication modules connections, messages, tags, and controller access with a software application. The ControlLogix comm modules are available for communication through the following network types: the EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, remote I/O, DH-485, DeviceNet, and the Data Highway Plus networks. For example, the EtherNet/IP comm modules can be used for the control of I/O modules and drives, communication with other devices on the same network through messages and HMI, and for bridge network links to navigate messages to devices that communicate over other networks.
These comm modules operate within a temperature range of -25 to 70 degrees Celsius (-13 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit) and they can withstand moderate vibrations and shock typical in any industrial environment. These components are CE marked/UL listed and they meet the requirements of standards such as the Ex, KC, and RCM standards. With the wide range of available models, the ControlLogix comm modules will provide the necessary flexibility to improve any industrial system. These modules have power dissipation ratings of 3.7 to 6.2 Watts and thermal dissipation ratings of 12.6 to 21.2 BTU per hour. The communication rate for these modules is 10/100 megabits per second and they have a voltage/current rating of 5.1 Volts DC (1.2 Amps). The isolation voltage of the modules is 30 Volts (continuous) and their weight is somewhere between 0.26 and 0.29 kilograms (0.57 and 0.64 pounds). The comm modules from this series are used with the RSLogix 5000 and RSLinx software from Rockwell Automation. These software solutions are mostly used for programming the devices according to the specific needs of an application. The software can be used to establish communication between a controller and a communication module, send and receive messages, and device configuration.
