The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1394-AM03-B Series B module is actually a servo controller for the digital AC multi-axis motion control systems from the 1394 product line. This servo (axis) amplifier has a power rating of 2 Kilowatts, an output amperage of 3.2 Amps and an input voltage of 530 to 680 Volts DC. Besides that, the 1394-AM03-B features a continuous current out of 3.0 Amps and continuous power out of 1.6/2.2 Kilowatts at 360 to 480 Volts nominal voltage rating. This module is intended for use with a variety of products from a modular and versatile 1394 series drive and multi-axis motion control systems. The digital motion control systems can be implemented in many ways and their success relies on their flexibility and a wide range of different applications. The 1394 system is mostly used as a GMC (an integrated motion controller and drive system) with special functionality in Turbo or with a standard IMC™ Class Compact solution. Other choices for the usage of 1394 system include 9/series drive system for digital interface, an integrated 9/440 CNC, a special SERCOS amplifier servo drive system and a simple analog servo drive system.
One of the advantages of this servo drive systems is the fact that they could be powered through a direct line without the need for transformers when they are connected to a three phase 360 or 480 Volts power source. The 1394-AM03-B’s direct line connection can be provided for the IGBT conversion of power or unique systems like slide-and-lock and module-to-module systems. The line reactor or isolation transformer can prevent improper operation or a complete malfunction of the system. The scenarios when the AC line is experiencing interruptions in power or extensive voltage oscillations can be prevented thanks to these features. Even though the 1394 series covers almost everything to protect the system, it is important to note that the user has an obligation to provide the line fuses and circuit breaker, if they are intended to be used with the 1394-AM03-B.
