The Allen-Bradley 1394-DIM is a 1394 Drive Interface Module Servo Controller. It functions as an interface between a 1394 GMC or a GMC Turbo system module and an external axis drive. Using it as part of the 1394 system lets the user control the axis modules, external drives, and motors of any size. The 1394-DIM passes a standard servo output signal from the system module to each external drive that is connected to it. It makes possible the connection of up to four remote actuators to the 1394 GMC or the 1394 GMC Turbo system modules.
The 1394-DIM has an input voltage of 24V 50kHz and a maximum power dissipation of 30 Watts and 1500 V RMS signal isolation. It has a 0-10 V analog output voltage, 12 bits, 4.88 mV output resolution, and 220 ohms output impedance. It has dimensions of 15.75 x 11.02 x 1.97 in and weighs 6.6 lbs. The 1394-DIM is compatible with the GML Commander software version 4.01 or higher. For mounting, it uses a slide-and-lock mechanism that eliminates up to 100 wire terminals. For wiring, it needs a Belden 8163 or equivalent cable with a maximum length of 4.5 m.
The 1394-DIM module can be used for applications with up to four axes that require more than 22 kW of power output. For example, the position control of a 100 lb.-in servo motor and a 50 HP 1336 force drive can be accomplished by connecting it to a 1394-DIM module. Some of the 1394-DIM’s applications include transferring and stamping press, converting, cut-to-length, and extrusion.
