The RGFCT200A is a neutral current transformer designed and manufactured by Cutler-Hammer/Eaton Corporation. The transformer falls into the category of molded case circuit breaker accessories manufactured by Eaton. The RGFCT200A is meant to be interfaced with Cutler Hammer R Frame circuit breakers. Basically, a current transformer (CT) measures an alternating current and produces a current in its secondary coil which is proportional to the current in its primary coil while at the same placing a negligible load on the primary circuit. The RGFCT200A, being a current transformer, is used as a current-sensing unit in a power system.
The RGFCT200A is designed to be used with circuit breakers that use a Digitrip 310+ electronic tripping mechanism plus a very high interrupting capacity. Additionally, the circuit breaker should support Long time, Short time, Instantaneous, and Ground fault functions when used with 4-wire systems where neutral protection is desired. The RGFCT200A is used as an external neutral sensor with R Frame circuit breakers. The RGFCT200A has a maximum continuous current rating of 2000 Amps calibrated at 40 degrees Celsius. The current transformer measures 1 inch by 1 inch by 1 inch and it weighs 1 pound. Note that a neutral current sensor, like the RGFCT200A, is not required if the neutral pole in a system is grounded, if no phase to neutral loads are used, and if a residual ground fault is required. However, in such a situation, a jumper wire must be provided between the circuit breaker secondary contact positions 11 and 12. Additionally, 3-wire systems do not require a neutral sensor such as the RGFCT200A.
