A Guide to the Allen Bradley Kinetix 2000 Series

The Allen-Bradley Kinetix 2000 (Bulletin 2093) Series features multi-axis servo drive modules that support integrated motion through SERCOS (Serial Real-time Communications System) interface. They extend the advantages of Kinetix Integrated Motion on SERCOS network to low-power motion control systems. They also deliver high performance and advanced control capabilities in a smaller footprint, allowing users to improve system performance and productivity while reducing the total cost of ownership and time to market.
Kinetix 2000 servo drives are an excellent choice for small and mid-sized motion control applications. Target applications include robotics, material handling, indexing, converting, X-Y tables, textile machinery, Web processing, metal forming, packaging, and electronic assembly.

Components of a Kinetix 2000 Servo Drive System
Kinetix 2000 multi-axis servo systems are fundamentally modular drive systems designed to provide a Kinetix Integrated Motion solution for motion control applications with output power requirements in the range of 3 to 45 kW (kilowatts) or 4 to 49 A (Amperes). To set up a standard Kinetix 2000 servo drive system, you will require the following components:
One 2093-AC05-MPx Integrated Axis Module (IAM)
Kinetix 2000 Integrated Axis Modules are 230V AC power converters and inverters that mount on a Bulletin 2093 (2093-PRSxx) power rail. Available 2093-AC05-MPx (single-width) drive modules include:
- 2093-AC05-MP1: This IAM drive module includes a 3 kW, 9.67 Amps three-phase or 3 kW, 6.42 A single-phase converter, and a 0.3 kW, 1.41 Amps inverter
- 2093-AC05-MP2: Its converter specifications are: 3 kW, 6.42 A (single-phase) or 3kW, 9.67 A (three-phase). It also features a 0.6 kW, 2.83 A inverter
- 2093-AC05-MP5: The module incorporates a 0.9 kW, 4.24 A inverter and a single-phase 3 kW, 6.42 A or a three-phase 3kW, 9.67 A converter.
Note: You’ll require just one 2093-AC05-MPx drive module for each 2093-PRSxx power rail.
Up to Seven Bulletin 2093 Axis Modules
A Bulletin 2093 Axis Module (AM) is a 230V shared DC bus power inverter that is installed on a 2093-PRSxx power rail. Available Kinetix 2000 Axis Modules are of two types: (i) 2093-AMxx double-width modules that require two slots for installation, and (ii) 2093-AMPx single-width modules that require a single slot for installation. They are as follows:
- 2093-AM01: This Axis Module features a 1.9 kW, 8.48 Amps inverter. It’s a double width type.
- 2093-AM02: Double-width Axis Module with a 3.0 kW, 13.4 Amps power inverter.
- 2093-AMP1: Single-width Axis Module comprising of a 0.3 kW, 1.41 Amps power inverter
- 2093-AMP2: Single-width type AM drive module with a 0.6 kW, 2.83 Amps inverter
- 2093-AMP5: Single-width Axis Module with a 0.9 kW, 4.24 A power inverter
Note: The Bulletin 2093 Axis Modules outlined above should be used with a 2093-AC05-MPx Integrated Axis Module. You can install up to seven 2093-AMP1, 2093-AMP5, or 2093-AMP5 AM drive modules on each Bulletin 2093 8-axis power rail. At the same time, you can only install up to three 2093-AM01 or 2093-AM02 Axis Modules on such a power rail.
A 2093-PRSxx Power Rail
2093-PRSxx power rails are built of copper bus bars and a backplane with electrical connectors for installing each Bulletin 2093 drive module. They supply power and control signals from the converter components of mounted Kinetix 2000 drive modules to adjacent inverters. They are available for 8, 7, 5, 4, 1, 3, and 2-axis Kinetix 2000 drive systems. Essentially, these power rails are available in configurations that support one IAM drive module, a shunt module (SM), and a maximum of seven additional Axis Modules. While a slot filler occupies any open slot on the power rail in use.
