The 1336-MOD-KB005 is a heavy-Duty dynamic braking resistor kit from Allen-Bradley. This device is mainly used to provide dynamic braking capability by dissipating energy in the form of heat. It is also used to protect the drive and DC us from excessive bus voltage as it prevents excess energy from returning to the DC Bus when the drive brake is initiated. This braking resistor is also capable of monitoring the DC Bus for a more efficient and faster response. The 1336-MOD-KB005 is specially designed for use with 1336 series of drives particularly 1336, 1336VT, 1336 PLUS, 1336 PLUS II, and 1336 FORCE drives. It has an input voltage rating of 680-750 VDC and a current rating of 2.5 Amperes while the device’s heat dissipation is 374 Watts, maximum. The 1336-MOD-KB005 is compatible for use with drives rated 380-460 VAC. The 1336-MOD-KB005 has typical braking torque characteristics of 100% Torque for 20 seconds with a duty cycle of 20%, typical. It has an operating temperature of -10 to 50 Degree Celsius or 14 - 122 Degree Fahrenheit with a relative humidity of 5-95%, non-condensing. This braking resistor shall not be installed in application areas with the presence of corrosive, hazardous dust, vapor, or gas. It has an operating altitude of 3300 feet or 1000 meters with an enclosure rating of NEMA Type 1 (IP20). The 1336-MOD-KB005 LED indicators shall not energize in the event that the motor is stopped, accelerating, and operating at speed without an overhauling load. When the brake light is activated along with the mentioned operating conditions, improper brake operation is reported by the device.

The 1336-MOD-KB005 drive accessory is a Heavy Duty Dynamic Brake for Allen-Bradley’s 1336 Series of drives. It is most often coupled with 1336, 1336VT, 1336 PLUS, 1336 PLUS II, and 1336 FORCE drives; this drive accessory can increase the braking torque capability of an attached drive by up to 100%. This Bulletin 1336 dynamic brake is intended for use with drives powered by 380 to 460 Volts of AC power specifically. This brake’s input side itself operates with a voltage of 680 to 750 Volts DC and with 2.5A DC current; the 1336-MOD-KB005 comes in NEMA Type 1 enclosure (IP20) and its heat dissipation is around 375 Watts. This device should absolutely not be operated in atmospheres with corrosive or hazardous dust, vapor or gas. The 1336-MOD-KB005 heavy-duty dynamic brake features 100% torque for 20 seconds and a 20% duty cycle. There are two signal lights present on the housing of this dynamic brake, which is DC Power and Brake On. The first one is lit when DC power is present on the input side, while the second will light up when the dynamic braking feature is activated. The 1336-MOD-KB005 1336 series drive accessory is equipped with a thermostat to protect the device against overheating and damage. If the excessive ambient temperature is present, the thermostat will open its control circuit and disable braking until components cool to work permitting temperature. During this cooling period, brake operation will not be available. The dynamic brake is internally fused to protect its components. There are two jumpers on this device; the first jumper determines whether the device is a master or slave (if multiple brakes are used, only one brake will be the master brake; this one will control the slave brakes). The second jumper is used to determine this brake’s input voltage (option 1 is 380 Volts AC, option 2 is 415 to 460 Volts AC). The 1336-MOD-KB005 self-contained enclosed assembly has dimensions of 193.5 x 441.4 x 174.5 millimeters (7.62 x 17.38 x 6.87 inches). The shipping weight of this module is approximately 15 pounds (6.8 kilograms) and the operating temperature range is -10 to 50 degrees Celsius (14 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit). This dynamic brake must be installed in a vertical position.
