The 74101-399-52 printed circuit board is designed by Allen-Bradley as a spare part for variable frequency 1336 series AC drives which have 250 Horsepower output and accept 460 Volts AC input. The 74101-399-52 board works with Frame F drives from the 1336 PLUS, IMPACT, FORCE, and PLUS II drive series. The 74101-399-52 board kit is basically a power amplifier circuit that accepts low-powered input and delivers a high-current output which is then applied to the gate of high-power MOSFET/IGBT transistors.



 



The 1336 drives are solid-state devices that are susceptible to ESD or Electrostatic Discharge which can cause damage due to the effects of the electrical fields that surround all charged objects. ESD can damage components through electrical discharge, induction, and polarization. During discharge, a current is created inside the device when the electrical field is grounded. Induction leads to current generation when the device moves in relation to the electrical field. During polarization, the device is charged and it is discharged during handling after being polarized due to the stationary electrical field. All these phenomena which can cause drive damage can be avoided through precautions that prevent ESD such as the use of static-free work areas, earthed wrist straps, and proper component handling. Allen-Bradley recommends the use of static-shielded packaging for all the drive components. The creation of a static-safe work area includes the removal of non-conductive material from work areas, avoiding touching the connector pins and backplane connectors, and covering the workbench and floor of the work area with conductive material that is earthed.
