The 1397-B040R drive is a DC drive that is in the 1397 series that is made and distributed by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. This drive includes different functions that are oriented toward controlling an induction DC motor. It provides a safety speed regulation mechanism to the motor attached to it. Before selecting a motor or a drive, the specifications of both devices need to be compared. The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1397-B040R DC drive has a regenerative mechanism. This means the drive can regulate torque and speed in either forward or reverse rotation. This mechanism helps to save most of the energy used by the drive since it can take the electrical energy generated by the motor and feed it back to the AC power source, enabling it to supply power to more than one drive.
The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1397-B040R DC drive comes with an open enclosure, it is up to the users to select the proper enclosure. It is recommended to select an enclosure based on the environmental specifications of the drive's environment such as the type of particles in the atmosphere and the ambient temperature levels. This drive is suitable to operate at a maximum temperature of 50 degrees Celsius and a maximum relative humidity of 95% without condensation. When installing the drive, clearances need to be left around it to enable ventilation. The drive cannot be mounted in a horizontal or sideways position. It needs to be installed in a vertical position only. The 1397-B040R drive operates with 40 Horsepower of output and a voltage rating of 460 Volts AC in optimum conditions. If it is used at altitudes higher than 3300 feet above sea level, the drive will need to be derated.
