Allen-Bradley manufactures the 402422-3F kit as an open-chassis dynamic brake kit featuring a duty cycle of 3 repetitive stops with an average rate of 1 stop every 10 minutes. Its input power rating is 120 Volts AC of user-supplied power. For 1.5 to 300 Horsepower drives and for 400 to 600 Horsepower drive ratings, it uses a drive contactor. The kit’s IP 00 (open) enclosure enables it to work at a maximum altitude of 1000 meters or 3300 feet above sea level. During the dynamic braking, the drive is disconnected from the armature with resistance placed within the rotating armatures, which requires the DC contractors to open for this dynamic braking to occur. It is advisable to remove all power before working on the 402422-3F open-chassis dynamic brake kit in any way to avoid the electric shock that can cause injury or even death. Removing the power includes disconnecting the power and tagging all the incoming power to the drive.
Additional features include an open cage resistor enclosure consisting of a backplate with 1 or a pair of resistors that are mounted in a parallel or series arrangement. Note that this kit is also equipped with a dynamic braking contractor that suppresses the contactor coil and mounts across the contactor coil. It has a circuit that is rated for low power for a 24 Volts rated coil electromagnet and for controlling a 230 Volts rated motor switch in order to control the switch better. The 402422-3F open-chassis dynamic brake kit requires 120 Volts AC voltage that meets the standard inrush VA rating that is specified for a continuous power supply with a Motor Armature (MA) current of 7 Amps and a voltage of 240 Volts DC. The dimensions of the open cage resistor to be used with the 402422-3F open-chassis dynamic brake kit should be 131.8 millimeters x 142.8 millimeters x 187.5 millimeters.
