About 8520-4APA1

The Allen-Bradley 8520-4APA1 system module is a digital processor drive in the Allen-Bradley 9/440 4-axis CNC system. The characteristic feature of 9/440 resolver–based systems is 1 compact unit which contains both a digital drive like the 8520-4APA1 and a CNC in 1 package. This integration leads to a number of benefits including greatly improved performance and greatly decreased cost, system integration time, and cabling requirement. The 9/440 4-axis CNC system supports up to 4 axis modules, 4 resolver feedback ports, 2 analog outputs, and 3 encoder feedback ports. The 8520-4APA1 system module and the axis module make up the Allen-Bradley 9/440 system.





The 8520-4APA1 digital processor drive has the following circuit boards: a CNC assembly, a power assembly, and an interconnecting power assembly and CNC assembly. The CNC assembly has a processor board, I/O ports for connection to the Allen-Bradley 9/Series fiber optic ring, serial ports labeled as Ports A and B, an emergency stop connection, video connection capability, and a feedback board for the interface through resolvers on Allen-Bradley 1326 motors.  The whole power assembly runs the 8520-4APA1 system module and the axis modules. The wiring board for the interconnecting power assembly and CNC assembly enables interconnection between the Allen-Bradley 9/440 resolver–based CNC assembly and the power portions of the 9/440 assembly. The Allen-Bradley 9/440 system and the 8520-4APA1 system module are used to control 1326 AC servomotors. For optimal performance, the 8520-4APA1 requires a precise AC input voltage with pre-defined phase/frequency/amplitude. It is the primary function of the axis module to provide this controlled AC voltage by converting the DC voltage provided by the 8520-4APA1 system module.
