The Allen-Bradley 8520-AA12 is a Digital Servo amplifier module that is component hardware of the 9/Series CNC hardware. This hardware features a current rating of 9 Amperes and is compatible for use with the Three (3) axis servo drive and 9/260 or 9/290 CNC digital servo card. This servo amplifier is provided with Four (4) terminals on the upper left side location intended for Bus Voltage (DC+ / DC-), Shunt, and EXT terminations while Twenty (20) screw-type terminals are located on the bottom side of the hardware for termination of 200 / 230 VAC, 1-phase; 200 / 230 VAC, 3-phase voltages and Three (3) motor connection terminals A, B, C, F(G) each. When installing the 8520-AA12, the device must be in a vertical position. Required mounting clearances include 100 mm or 3.95 inches for side clearances and 200 mm of 7.87 inches for the top and bottom clearances. In addition, this servo amplifier is not intended for bottom enclosure plate mounting. The 8520-AA12 is provided with Two (2) internal cooling fans. Typical configuration involving the 8520-AA12 includes the use of a 9/230 CNC 8520 Drive Version with catalog number 8520-DSP. The 8520-AA12 digital servo amplifier connects to the 8520 drive via the J1, J2, and J3 terminals, respectively. As the 8520-AA12 supports Three (3) motion axes, up to Three (3) servomotors can be driven by the amplifier with 1 motor to 1 axis ratio. Axes are connecters to the D-shell ports and axes must have consecutive connections with no empty connection between axes to maintain a valid configuration.
The 8520-AA12 is a servo amplifier; its main function is to provide the appropriate power supply to a compatible servomotor. The 8520-AA12 servo amplifier is manufactured by Allen-Bradley and belongs to the 9/series. It is fully compatible with the 9/series drives and processors. The 8520-AA12 can also be paired with a wide range of servo motors, in addition to the 9/series units. The installation of this unit is simple, but it requires that the amplifier is placed in a different location than the drive, at a distance that doesn’t affect the signals due to the electrical disturbance that is produced while it is operating. The Allen-Bradley 8520-AA12 servo amplifier is multi-axis, meaning that has three axis or servos that allows the unit to operate with more efficiency than those single axis servo amplifiers. In addition, this unit operates at 12 Amps. The operative level of this Allen-Bradley 8520-AA12 servo amplifier is designated by the servo motor to which it is applied. Once the servo motor has sent feedback and this feedback has been caught by the servo module, the servo module sends this signal to the servo amplifier. This way, the servo amplifier is able to send the required amount of power to the servo motor. The Allen-Bradley 8520-AA12 servo amplifier is manufactured with a shaft seal made of Teflon, making it highly resistant and capable of withstanding high pressures, temperatures, and dry running and aggressive environments. The applications of this Allen-Bradley 8520-AA12 servo amplifier are available whenever there is a need to preserve and boost the effectiveness of a servo motor. This amplifier’s function types are used in many currently relevant applications.
