The 8520-MPRO, manufactured by Allen Bradley, is a central processor board that is used in computer numerical controls (CNC) systems and is a part of the 9/ series of modules, which are often used in CNC systems. The 8520-MPRO acts as a central point for the processing of data within the system. This processor is powered by 12 Volts of an auxiliary logic power supply, which is coupled with the main power supply through 3-phase incoming Alternating Current (AC). The 8520-MPRO also referred to as a 9/230 has 65 ASRN chips; similarly to a 9/series processor, this module is resolver-based. It provides the CNC logic, as well as providing connections to the 9/Series Fiber optic I/O ring, serial ports A and B, E–Stop connections, and video connection. The 8520-MPRO processor is composed of RAM SIMMS, R–I/O LED, Flash SIMMS, Option Chip and Serial Ports A and B. To install the 8520-MPRO processor, take care not to discharge the static RAMs. When fixing this module to the motherboard, it should be positioned with the cable shield clamp, over the exposed braided shield (ensure that the clamp screw is behind the clamp and not the braided shield). This clamp screw should then be tightened. It is, however, very important to not over-tighten the clamp screw; over-tightening of this screw can result in serious damage to the braided shield and other parts of the unit.
