About 8520-SPRO

The 8520-SPRO is a 9/Series Computer Numerical controls (CNC) system sub-processor board, manufactured by Rockwell Automation under the Factory Automation Line that has the brand name of Allen Bradley.  The Sub processor board is powered by the input power in the control operator panel, from the main power supply, which supplies a 24 Volt power supply to its logic. Its weight is roughly over 300 grams. A CNC system works by distributing various functions among the processors; the 8520-SPRO specifically works to process the Input and Output signals in the Control Operator Panel. This sub-processor board operates a feedback resolver and is connected to the main processor board of the CNC system; the 8520-SPRO should be configured by a developer while taking into consideration the 9/Series API Developer’s Guide. APIs for the processor can be written and loaded from a Personal Computer that is running the proprietary software ODS, RSLogix 5 and RSNetworx which have the capability to create, edit and download AMP part programs.  Optimized configuration should be applied during installation so as to achieve acceptable performance and to avoid lag within the CNC system.

This module’s CPU Board is capable of  communication with various devices in the CNC system, through connection by various cables, which are connected to the serial and parallel ports A and B,; since the sub-processor mainly processes input and output data from devices, a high-speed Fiber I/O cable is connected to it. The 8520-SPRO sub-processor board, similarly to all the CPUs, is attached to a mounting plate and on top of a heat sink in order to dissipate excess heat during its operation. The boards are affected by an adverse environmental condition, such as extreme heat, and high levels of humidity, as well as exposure to dust, vibrations, and shock. An enclosure with a NEMA rating 4/12 should be used to cover the 8520-SPRO when it is exposed to any kind of potentially hazardous atmosphere.
