The 8520-SR is an Allen Bradley manufactured memory module, designed for the 9 Series. This module has an internal RAM SIMM flash memory; this memory module is mounted on the processor board. If the module displays an error message stating that the Flash SIMMS are not yet installed, the user must install the flash SIMMs on the CPU board or the processor board. This RAM memory stores the part program and tool offsets, which can be stored with the help of the inbuilt battery backup, in case the main power supply to the system is turned off. This data can be stored for a maximum period of approximately six months when the system is powered off. The backup battery is tested when the system turns on; if the battery voltage is low, it will display a message to inform the user of low battery.
The data stored on this module will be lost if the power is turned off and the battery is defective, or if it is not charged. As with this entire series of modules, the recommended operating temperature for the 8520-SR is 0 to 55 degrees Celsius; this module also requires a temperature of -30 to 65 degrees Celsius in order to be safely stored and transported. Care should be taken when replacing the RAM module, due to the risk of static discharge. To remove the 8520-SR, locate the release tabs and press the levers on the left and the right to release the module. Insert the new 8520-SR memory module, and ensure that it is properly connected by checking that the release tabs are locked. When replacing the 8520-SR, ensure that this module is kept on a clean surface, and away from dust.
