The Allen-Bradley 4100-AEC Absolute Encoder Converter Module is an IMC S Class series solid-state, microprocessor-based, automation computer that operates as an interface for receiving incoming communication signals from field instruments in a motion control system such as absolute encoders, linear displacement transducers, and other similar types of feedback signals. The module will then apply a signal-processing operation in order to transmit the feedback data to a 1394 GMC System module or a compact motion controller for further processing and control. The Allen-Bradley 4100-AEC Absolute Encoder Converter Module provides 2 independent channels, and each of these channels can handle an independent signal conversion process from absolute to incremental quadrature conversion.



 



Due to the cable specifications and the module expansion location in the 1394 GMC system module, the Allen-Bradley 4100-AEC Absolute Encoder Converter Module can only be mounted on the left side of that system module. The connection of the Allen-Bradley 4100-AEC Absolute Encoder Converter Module with the 1394 GMC system module can only be made through the use of a separately-sold cable assembly known as the Allen-Bradley 1394-GR04 cable assembly. When installing this cable assembly, the technicians must respect the polarity and pay special attention to the connection ports in both the absolute encoder converter and the motion controller. The initial configuration of the channels is a simple process that involves the selection of the corresponding options in the rotary switches located at the front of the converter module. Some of the parameters that need to be selected are the transducer resolution, whether the transducer is a single or multi-turn device, whether the transducer will use gray or binary data transmission, and whether the operation mode is locked or freely running.
