The Allen-Bradley 22C-D045A103 is a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). This drive is used for industrial fan, pump and damper applications. It suits a wide variety of industry such as Water, Wastewater, Heating Ventillation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC), Building Management systems (BMS) and other similar application both for factory and process automations.

The 22C-D045A103 is part of the PowerFlex adjustable frequency AC drives which is also called as Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), Variable Speed Drives (VSD), Frequency inverter or inverter. These terms all refer to a device that mainly used for AC motor speed modulation. In other applications, an adjustable frequency AC drive is used primary for lowering operational costs as this equipment provides programmable start and stop modes, minimizing generation and the effects of inrush current.

The 22C-D045A103 implements speed control using the built-in control programmable control methods such as Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and Volts / Hertz (V/Hz) control. Additionally, it has the capability of implementing Proportional + Integral + Derivative (PID) control algorithm, allowing the drive to act as a loop controller, implementing fully-automatic control and maintaining the desired process variable within the acceptable specified Setpoint range.

The 22C-D045A103 has a built-in RS485 communication interface, enabling the drive to be connected in a network of PowerFlex drives. Up to 31 drives may be connected, allowing remote operation and configuration. Additionally, this drive supports installation of optional communication adapters that support ProfiBus, LONWORKS, Ethernet I/P, DeviceNet communication protocols.

Rated for an IP30, NEMA/UL Type 1 enclosure, this drive has a frame size of D. It has a drive rating of 22 kW, an output current of 45.5 Amps anywhere between 45 and 50 degrees Celsius, and a 30 HP output power. Its input ratings include 47 Amps, a 340 to 528 voltage range, and a 39.1 kVA rating. It requires use of 60 A and a 100-C60 Contactor for branch circuit protection. This unit dissipates approximately 738 IP20 Open Watts of power. This PowerFlex 400 should not be stored, installed, or operated in an atmosphere that may contain potentially harmful or corrosive elements including dangerous gases, vapors, or forms of dust. Additionally, it should be mounted at an altitude lower than 3300 feet (or 1000 meters). Its ideal operating temperature peaks at 113 degrees Fahrenheit and drops as low as 14, but should not exceed either (-10 to 45 degrees Celsius). It can also be stored in temperatures between -40 and 185 degrees Fahrenheit, but again should not exceed these extremes (-40 and 85 degrees Celsius). Though this module has an operating shock that peaks at 15 G for an 11-millisecond duration and an operating vibration maximum of 1G, 5 to 2000 Hertz, it still meets and passes the seismic requirements set by the International Building Code in 2003. The 22C-D045A103 contains an integral Auxiliary Motor Control trait, allowing the operation of up to three (3) additional line-started motors with the motor that is directly managed by a PowerFlex 400 drive. A motor interlock input service can identify obsolete motors and move to the next available motor, skipping over the ones that are no longer in service.
