Allen Bradley’s AC Powerflex Drive 22C-D142A103 is an adjustable frequency drive. These programs allow the 22C-D142A103 to be parameterized, enabling speed control of motors. With features such as online and offline programming, modification of the terminal’s parameters, and the ability to save parameter information greatly improving the drive’s functionality. Additionally, these programs make it possible to download and upload the unit’s parameters. Built into this unit is a control loop knows as PID (short for Proportional, Integral, Differential). This control loop holds a variable at a certain point, which can be set by the user. For example, the user could set the flow or pressure of an operation to a certain point; the PID loop will then ensure that the value does not change. It will also detect mistakes in an operation and avoid them in the future. The 22C-D142A103 has another feature called Auxiliary Motor Control. What this feature allows is the addition of three auxiliary motors, in addition to the primary drive-controlled motor. With all four motors running simultaneous and at their highest speed, the system output can reach up to 400%. With this Auxiliary Motor Control system, the drive will automatically start up an additional motor as soon as demand for the product being made becomes too high for one motor to handle alone. In the same way, when demand diminishes, the system will automatically shut down unnecessary motors. The standard communication systems for the 22C-D142A103 are Modbus RTU, P1-Floor Level Network (FLN), Metasys N2, and Drive Serial Interface DSI. However, if desired, the user will be able to apply the following additional protocols, which are also supported by this module: LonWorks, BACnet, ControlNet, EtherNet/IP, and DeviceNet. The output rating of this unit is 75 kW at 100 HorsePower. Its 142 Amps can be held at 45 degrees Celsius but drops to 128 Amps at 50 degrees Celsius. With an input voltage range of 340 to 528 Volts, this module has an input rating of 124.8 kV and 150 input Amps and has a power dissipation of 2043 Open IP20 Watts. Its overall rating is for an IP30, NEMA/UL Type 1 enclosure. The E sized frame requires wiring that is larger than 1/0 AWG (53.5 millimeters squared) and smaller than 4/0 AWG (107.2 millimeters squared), in order for it to fit. It is not recommended to facilitate a torque any higher than 19.5 N-m or 173 pounds on an inch. This unit SHOULD NOT be mounted at an altitude any higher than 3300 feet (or 1000 meters) and should be kept out of corrosive environments and not exposed to dust.

The Allen-Bradley 22C-D142A103 is an Allen-Bradley Adjustable Frequency AC drive that is specifically designed for use in industrial fan and pump applications. This drive is capable of Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and Volts/Hertz (V/Hz) control method. Also, the 22C-D142A103 is equipped with built-in Proportional + Integral + Derivative (PID) functionality, allowing the drive to act as a stand-alone controller.

Additionally, the 22C-D142A103 is also capable of auxiliary motor control. With this control, up to three (3) line-started motors can be connected to the drive. This is the typical arrangement in most fan and pump applications as these applications typically use a duplex or triplex pump that sets operating in Duty/Standby/Spare setup. With Auxiliary motor control, only one (1) drive is needed to control all three (3) motors. Additionally, the same feature is capable of Auto-Swap function. Wherein periodic motor swapping can be initiated based on runtime. With this, motor wear and tear can be equally distributed.

The 22C-D142A103 has an input voltage requirement of 340-528 Volts AC, 3-Phase, and provides an output voltage of 0-460 Volts AC, 3-Phase. It delivers an output frequency of 0-320 Hertz which is fully programmable and an output current of 142 Amperes @ 45 degrees Celsius, 128 Amperes @ 50 degrees Celsius, and a power of 100.0 Horsepower or 75.0 Kilowatts. It also has a carrier frequency of 2-8 Kilohertz as this drive is a Frame E sized drive.

Aside from implementing speed control for industrial fan and pump applications, the 22C-D142A103 can also be used for lowering energy consumption while serving its primary purpose. It can implement acceleration and deceleration profiles; multiple stop modes such as Ramp, Coast, DC-Brake, Ramp-to-Hold and S-curve. These settings effectively reduce the generation of inrush current and lessens the effects of sudden motor energization and de-energization command.
