The 22D-B5P0F104 is an Adjustable Frequency AC Drive from Allen-Bradley’s PowerFlex 40P family. It is a cost-effectively designed solution for both open and closed-loop control of three-phase induction motors. The 22D-B5P0F104 has a 5A with 1 Hp (0.75 kW) rating and a 240 Volt AC 3-phase voltage rating. This unit’s operating input voltages range from 180 to 264 Volts AC (three-phase input). This is flange mountable AC drive that has an IP20 (NEMA Type 1 open) enclosure and an HIM with a display and fault reset. There is no filter included. These AC Drives produce a variable frequency three-phase PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) to achieve adjustable speeds on AC induction motors. This module’s frequency in its programmable mode can be adjusted between 0  and 500 Hertz; the 22D-B5P0F104 drive uses Isolated Gate Bipolar (IGBT) technology. The 22D-B5P0F104 also applies a number of control methods, including Sinusoidal PWM, Volts per Hertz, and Sensorless Vector Control. Integral RS485 communication is used for the programming of the PC. The protection features found in this module are ground fault protection, short-circuit protection, over/under voltage protection, overcurrent protection, and electronic motor overload protection.

There are seven digital inputs available for its control functions, which are start, stop, forward, reverse, RS-485 control, local control, second acceleration/deceleration, auxiliary fault, clear fault, preset frequencies, and purge. The control logic works with 24 Volts DC and can be set for either sink or source over a DIP switch setting. There are two analog inputs for speed control. Both inputs can be configured for 0 to 10 Volts DC or 4 to 20 mA and can be used with PID algorithm. This unit’s voltage input can be programmed for a bipolar ±10 Volts of DC operation. There is also a single programmable 1NO/1NC relay output (3A rated) installed on the device. The 22D-B5P0F104 is convection cooled; professionals advise that a 10A fuse is used to protect this AC drive. Its enclosure dimensions without a flange are 145 x 210 x 119.3 millimeters (5.71 x 8.27 x 4.70 inches). The operating temperature range for this unit is –10 to 50 degrees Celcius (14 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit). The Zero Stackin option is allowed when the module is operating within a  maximum ambient temperature of 40 degrees Celsius.
