The Allen-Bradley 150-C16NBD is an SMC-3 solid-state smart motor controller with 5 modes of operation present. In particular, this controller features soft start, soft stop, coast-to-rest, kickstart, and current limit start. It also has protection features available, namely phase imbalance, phase reversal protection, phase loss/open load, electronic motor overload protection, shorted SCR, and over temperature. This controller can be used for different applications, such as compressors, conveyors, pumps, chillers, lifts, mixers, and much more. It is equipped with a reset button that can be used to test the 150-C16NBD controller for faults. Its LED status indicator shows the controller’s RUN, OFF, and fault conditions, with the type of fault indicated by the number of flashes given. Its DIP switches allows the user to quickly set the START/STOP profile of this controller, as well as other configurations. A rotary switch is also present and this allows easier configuration of the controller’s motor FLA. The current rating of the 150-C16NBD controller is 16 A and in particular, its current ranges from 5.3 to 16 A. Its control voltage is 24 Volts AC/DC and input line voltage is 200 to 480 Volts AC, 50/60 Hertz. At a starting duty of 350%, this controller’s Hp ranges from 1.5 to 3 at 200 Volts AC, 1.5 to 5 at 230 Volts AC, and 5 to 10 at 460 Volts AC; at 450% starting duty, it has an Hp of 1.5 to 3 for both 200 and 230 Volts AC and 5 to 7.5 at 460 Volts AC. This 3-phase, 3-wire controller also has Delta compatibility and uses an open-type enclosure.

The 15-C16NBD is a Smart Motor Controller (SMC) that is part of the SMC-3 series by Allen-Bradley. This controller is mainly used with 3-Phase AC motors to implement controlled efficient Starting and Stopping actions though the embedded control functions such as Soft Start; Selectable kickstart; Current limit start; Cost-to-rest, and Soft Stop. These functions are capable of either limiting current and voltage, cut-off supply voltage to the motor, implement ramp-up and ramp down of speed. Simultaneously, mechanical stress due to sudden change in the motors rotational direction is kept to minimum, allowing the motor to operate efficiently and potentially maximizing the motor’s operational lifespan.

Aside from the built-in start-up and shutdown functions, the 150-C16NBD also comes with built-in protection features such as Overload, Overtemperature, Phase Reversal, Phase Loss/Open load, Phase imbalance and Shorted SCR. It also comes with a test function which can be initiated by triggering the Holt to Test button located at the upper left side of the device. For setting of the Overload value, the 150-C16NBD is provided with a rotary switch.

The 150-C16NBD can be used with Line connected and Delta connected motors. It delivers an output current of 16 Amperes and operates at a supply voltage of 200-460 Volts AC, 3-Phase, and frequencies of 5- or 60 Hertz. Additionally, the control voltage of the device is 24 Volts DC/24 Volts AC. This device has met different standards such as UL 508, CSA C22.2 No.14, EN/IEC 60947-1, and EN/IEC 60947-4-2. It carries certifications from c-UL-us Listed (Open Type) (File No. E96956, Guides NMFT, NMFT7), CSA Certified (File No. LR 1234), CE Marked (Open Type) per EMC and Low Voltage Directive and CCC Certified.
