The Allen-Bradley 40888-899-02 SMC Plus soft stop control module is an optional control module replacement part for the Allen-Bradley SMC Plus smart motor controllers. The SMC Plus controllers are incorporated with microprocessing control features that provide outstanding reliability for motors rated from 1 to 1000 Horsepower, 1 to 1000 Amps, and 200 to 600 Volts AC ratings. The 40888-899-02 soft stop control module, like all SMC Plus control modules, features 3 standard starting modes (the full voltage, current limit, and the soft start modes) in addition to the optional soft stop control. In the soft start mode, the controller provides adjustable initial torque settings from 5 to 90% of the locked rotor torque through 2 to 30 seconds of adjustable ramp time, and in the full voltage start mode, the controller provides a ramp time of less than ¼ of a second for applications requiring across-the-line starting.
The 40888-899-02 control module’s optional soft stop operation mode is suitable for applications that require extended coast to rest stopping such as frictional loads that tend to stop abruptly in the event of power loss. The 40888-899-02 control module achieves this soft stop by adjusting the ramp-down time anywhere between 2 and 60 seconds, allowing the loads to stop when the motor voltage drops to a point where the load torque is greater than the motor torque. The 40888-899-02 soft stop control module features built-in protective and diagnostics features that include the start fault protection, line fault protection, over-temperature detection, stall protection, transient protection, and DV/DT protection that is available via the RC snubber network. The 40888-899-02 control module accepts 100 to 240 Volts AC 3-phase control power input at 50/60 Hertz and it has a 3-phase input range of 200 to 600 Volts AC.
