The 1370-DC180 contactor is a DC loop contactor by Allen-Bradley with dynamic braking. The main function of the 1370-DC180 contactor is to switch an armature current from a DC drive module to a shunt coil DC motor. The loop contactor has a current rating of 180 Amps and a voltage rating of 550 Volts DC. Its contractors come with a top-wired design, which has its power connectors located at the top. Another notable thing about the 1370-DC180 contactor is the weld-resistance double-break silver cadmium oxide contacts for improved reliability. The stationary contacts come in a unique fold back design, while the movable contacts are wedge-shaped. The fold-back design can generate a strong magnetic field during contact opening, and this magnetic field quickly throws off the arc from the contact surface, where it is cooled and then extinguished by the arc chamber’s surface.
The Allen-Bradley 1370-DC180 contactor comes with contactor coils that have been molded under hot pressure by using a thermoset epoxy. This protects these coils from mechanical damage, as well as from harsh environments. The design of the coil shunt plate retards the magnetic flux until the applied voltage reaches the recommended step. Every coil in the 1370-DC180 DC loop contactor is equipped with a thermal cutout, with a design that allows it to open in the event of excessive current or mishandled voltage. In addition to that, the 1370-DC180 contactor has a permanent air gap which cannot be affected by pole face wear and lead to magnetic sticking because of residual magnetism. Every magnet lamination comes with a phosphate coating, which gives the magnets protection against corrosion.
