The 1409-N3 arcing ground fault sensor module creates a full arcing ground fault detection system with an arcing ground fault relay. The module is designed and produced by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation and it is part of the 1409 product series (Bulletin 1409). The 1409-N3 arcing ground fault sensor module features a NEMA starter size of 5 and a supply voltage of 120 Volts AC (60 Hertz). The power input module of all the components from the series is 3 Volt-Amps while the response time is 50 milliseconds. The response time does not include the controller drop-out time. The featured cables which are used with the sensor should have a size of 500 MCM at 600 Volts AC and a size of 350 MCM at 5000 Volts AC and 8000 Volts AC. These are the maximum recommended cable sizes.

The window diameter of the 1409-N3 sensor module is 82 millimeters or 2.25 inches. The dimensions of the module include a width of 73.2 millimeters (2.8 inches), a height of 144 millimeters (5.6 inches), and a depth of 157.2 millimeters (6.1 inches). The 1409 systems feature an adjustable trip from 1 to 6 Amps and they provide maximum sensitivity without nuisance tripping. The proper operation of the system is made possible through a test system with a built-in test circuit. The 1409-N3 sensor module has 4 closed slots, 4 open slots, and 4 mounting holes. The ambient operating temperature range of the module should be between -40 and 85 degrees Celsius (-40 and 184 degrees Fahrenheit). Note that the Bulletin 1409 arcing ground fault detection systems are CSA certified and UL listed, thus complying with all relevant industry standards.
