The Allen-Bradley 140MG-G8P-D12 Motor Protector Circuit Breaker is a complete factory-assembled motor protection circuit breaker that is designed for short-circuit protection on a single motor load in a wide range control panel applications. It belongs to the Bulletin 140MG G-Frame Circuit Breaker product line, and it can be used as a means of disconnecting motor branch circuits, or as a branch circuit itself. Circuit breakers in this product family are used as short-circuit protection devices and as switching devices for the main circuit. Generally, all Bulletin 140MG devices (including the 140MG-G8P-D12 Circuit Breaker) are UL/CSA recognized only, because they are designed to provide short-circuit protection only and not motor overload protection. An overload protection device can be ordered separately if overload protection is required.
The 140MG-G8P-D12 Circuit Breaker has a high breaking capacity (100 Kilo-Amps at 460 Volts AC), and it has a nominal current rating of 125 Amps. This circuit breaker is designed for circuits operating at 230 to 600 Volts AC (3-phase), and it has an output power rating of 30 Horsepower at 230 Volts AC and of 75 Horsepower at 460 Volts AC. The 140MG-G8P-D12 Circuit Breaker only has a magnetic trip unit that is adjustable to up to 10 times the full load Amp (FLA) rating. The magnetic trip setting is controlled via a CAM controlled mechanism with settings from A to I and corresponding to trip values from 375 Amps to 1375 Amps. The 140MG-G8P-D12 Circuit Breaker's magnetic trip unit uses an electromagnet in a series with the load for instantaneous trip action, and this only happens when the line current exceeds the user-set value.
