The 1718-ARM module is a special placeholder module that has been designed and manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. It is a member of the Allen-Bradley 1718 Ex I/O series. The 1718-ARM placeholder module is a simple module that is used either to cover the empty slots in an I/O rack in a remote I/O system or to fix unused system field wiring as needed. If the empty slots in an I/O rack are not covered, they are at risk of accumulating dust and debris, suffering corrosion, or being damaged by liquids. The 1718-ARM placeholder module will keep the slots that it covers clean until they need to be used for another type of module, and then the placeholder module can be easily removed so that the new module can be installed.

The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1718-ARM placeholder module can be removed or installed under power if necessary. It does not have an IP address because it does not have an effect on the overall functioning of the remote I/O system that it is part of and because its sole function is to fill an empty space or fix any unused field wiring. The 1718-ARM placeholder module can be installed in any sequence on the chassis and it can be installed in Zone 1 types of environments if it is also installed in an external enclosure for protection. It weighs about 5.6 ounces. The 1718-ARM placeholder module can operate in a temperature range from -4 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and it can be stored in a temperature range from -13 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit.
