The 1718-IBN8 module is a digital input module from Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. It is part of the Allen-Bradley 1718 Ex I/O series, which means that it can be used as part of a 1718 remote I/O system that partially operates in a hazardous industrial area and that is capable of receiving signals that are transmitted to it from the hazardous area through the EtherNet/IP network. The 1718-IBN8 digital input module receives all of the digital input signals that are sent to it from mechanical contacts or NAMUR sensors that are located in the hazardous area. It can detect open circuits and short-circuit line faults while it operates. Additionally, the inputs in the 1718-IBN8 digital input module are all galvanically isolated from the bus and the power supply.

The Allen-Bradley 1718-IBN8 digital input module from the 1718 Ex I/O series supports permanent self-monitoring which extends its operating lifespan and detects faults quickly. It can be used in Zone 1 rated environments, but it needs to be installed in an external enclosure that will keep it safe in these environments. The 1718-IBN8 digital input module can be inserted or removed safely while under power. It has 8 total input channels and it draws its power through the chassis bus. The 1718-IBN8 digital input module supports optional mechanical coding through the front socket. Without an external enclosure, this input module has an IP 20 environmental protection rating. It can operate at temperatures between -20 and 60 degrees Celsius and it can be stored and transported at temperatures between -25 and 85 degrees Celsius.
