The Allen-Bradley 8500-E154 Digital I/O Module is a microprocessor-based controller interface that is designed to interact with field devices such as sensors and actuators in order to govern the operation of servo motors in a wide variety of industrial applications. This module is a member of the 8500 Motors series. It is able to monitor the status of up to 20 inputs incoming from independent sensors located in an industrial machine. The Allen-Bradley 8500-E154 Digital I/O Module receives the signals from the field and passes them to the application’s central CNC system, which can be either a 9/230, 9/260, or a 9/290 Allen-Bradley Computer Numerical Control system. In a matter of microseconds, the controller emits a command that will be passed to field actuators by the digital I/O module’s 10 Triac outputs and/or 2 relay outputs, closing the control loop.
The Allen-Bradley 8500-E154 Digital I/O Module needs a user-supplied operating voltage of 24 Volts DC. Its power consumption rating is less than 9 Volt-Amps, but an important precaution to take is to always consider installing a forced ventilation system or climate control system if the panel where the system is installed reaches a temperature of over 40 degrees Celsius. The Allen-Bradley 8500-E154 Digital I/O Module comes from the factory in a tough metallic case, with a screw-type terminal for wiring connections. Each connection terminal is properly marked, and there are 6 common points for ease of installation. A glass-tube-filled 1.6Amps or 250 Volts rated fuse is included with the digital I/O module, and if a replacement is needed, an exact match should be chosen to preserve the electrical protection that is required by the manufacturer specifications.
