The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation MPL-B420P-MK24AA servo motor is a premium permanent magnet brushless servo motor. It has a 24 Volts DC brake. On the MPL-B420P-MK24AA servo motor, a brake is used to either stop the motor or to hold the motor after its speed has been brought down to zero revolutions per minute. Generally, the motor’s brake operates by using friction between mating surfaces. However, for stopping purposes, the brake must have sufficient torque. For the MPL-B420P-MK24AA servo motor, the 24 Volts DC brake is primarily used as a holding brake and it is only used as a stopping brake when the system experiences a power outage.
The MPL-B420P-MK24AA servo motor features bayonet connectors and it has a voltage rating of 400 Volts AC. The motor does not feature a shaft key or a shaft seal. For the feedback, the MPL-B420P-MK24AA servo motor employs a multi-turn high-resolution feedback encoder. Because it is a multi-turn high-resolution encoder, the encoder is capable of providing absolute position feedback within 4096 turns. Note that the encoder uses an electromechanical design that eliminates the need for a battery. Additionally, the high-resolution nature of the encoder makes the MPL-B420P-MK24AA servo motor suitable for use as a component of an Allen-Bradley Kinetix drive’s safe-off feature. The MPL-B420P-MK24AA servo motor belongs to the Allen-Bradley MPL family of servo motors which contain a low level of inertia. Motors in this series have an onboard memory that helps to retain the motor identity. This helps to prevent initiating a new connection each time the power is removed from the servo motor.
