The MPL-B4530K-SJ24AA servo motor is a servo motor manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. The motor has a 24 Volts DC holding brake. The holding brake provides a way to hold the motor’s shaft at zero revolutions per minute up to the rated brake holding torque. Once the holding brake has been engaged, it can be released by applying voltage on the brake coil. Note that for the holding brake to operate as required, the polarity of the DC voltage that is applied must be specified. Additionally, when using the MPL-B4530K-SJ24AA servo motor, it must be noted that the brake is not meant to bring the servo motor to a complete stop. When this brake functionality is needed, the controlling drive must be used. Once the drive decelerates the motor to zero revolutions per minute, the holding brake can be engaged to hold the servo motor’s shaft at a stop.
Although the brakes on the MPL-B4530K-SJ24AA servo motor can be employed as a stopping option once the main system power fails, the system can be damaged this way since this braking method creates a rotational mechanical backlash. The MPL-B4530K-SJ24AA servo motor is part of the Allen-Bradley MP series of servo motors and it is part of the low inertia line in this series. Servo motors in this family are brushless AC synchronous servo motors. Additionally, servo motors in this series have a high output and a small motor size. The Allen-Bradley MPL-B4530K-SJ24AA servo motor, like other motors in the same family, maintains its identity in the system through the use of an onboard memory. It also uses a communication link (RS-485) to report its identity to the system immediately when it has been started up.
