The Alle- Bradley 1408-EM3A-485 module is a PowerMonitor 1000 series module. Power monitors are compact and cost-effective electrical power metering devices designed for industrial applications including industrial control panels, distribution centers, and motor control centers. The power monitor measures the current and voltage in electrical circuits. The 1408-EM3A-485 module is an energy, demand, and power monitor. Hardware features available on the 1408-EM3A-485 module include an RS-485 serial port, an LCD for data display, module status indicators, network status indicators, LCD interface buttons, sensing terminals for voltage and current, and control power and ground wiring terminals.
The 1408-EM3A-485 module can measure various parameters including the kilowatt, kVA, kVAR, power factor, kilowatt-hours, voltage, current, frequency, voltage/current unbalance, kilowatt demand, projected kilowatts demands, and demand power factor parameters. The environmental specifications for the 1408-EM3A-485 module include a -10 to 60 degrees Celsius operating temperature range, a -40 to 85 degrees Celsius storage temperature range, and a 5 to 95% non-condensing relative humidity range. Only 22 to 14 AWG copper wire should be used for terminations on the terminal blocks. The recommended torque for the wire termination is 0.8 N-m. The input and output specifications include 85 to 264 Volts AC control power input voltage (at 47 to 63 Hertz, 4 VA max) and 125 to 250 Volts DC. For the voltage sense inputs, the maximum input current is 2 milliamps and the input impedance is 5 megaohms. For the current sense inputs, the impedance is 0.002 ohms, the burden is 0.05 VA, and the overload rating is 15 Amps continuous and it is 200 Amps for 0.5 seconds.
