The Allen-Bradley 1440-REX00-04RD relay module is an XM-441 expansion relay module. This additional module adds 4 relays to any XM measurement module or to the XM-440 master relay module so that the users can configure wired alarms or start ad-hoc processes according to the information that is captured by the module. The 1440-REX00-04RD relay module contains four DPDT relays with two sets of contacts each. The contacts of these relays are rated for a 250 Volts AC voltage level at 50 to 60 Hertz frequency and 3 Amps of current. The host XM module is in charge of managing the latching, time delay, logic, reset, and activation of the additional relays that are contained in the 1440-REX00-04RD XM-441 expansion relay module.

Given its open-type construction, the 1440-REX00-04RD XM-441 expansion relay module must always be installed inside a protective enclosure to keep high temperatures, humidity, dust, and direct sunlight away from the PCB (printed circuit board). The approximate dimensions of the module are 97 x 94 x 94 millimeters (3.8 x 3.7 x 3.7 inches). The signal connections must be connected by using shielded cables to prevent harmonics and external noise from creating false starts in the relays. The power and relay connections can be connected with an unshielded cable. The power supply for the 1440-REX00-04RD XM-441 expansion relay module should deliver a voltage of 24 Volts DC, with a rated current of 0.2 Amps maximum. The power dissipation of the expansion card is 2.9 W (9.9 BTU/hour) maximum, which means that normally a forced ventilation system would be enough to keep the modules cool, unless there are other elements inside the cabinet where the card is installed with higher heat dissipation levels.
