The Allen-Bradley 1440-SPD02-01RB module is a dual-speed module that is part of the XM series by Allen-Bradley. The 1440-SPD02-01RB module, which is a DIN-rail-mounted protection module, can operate as a stand-alone device, or it can be integrated with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) or control system networks. It is a two-channel module and it can accept input from any 2 tachometers, regardless of their standard type. This includes eddy channel probes, optical tachometers, magnetic pickups, and TTL output devices. The 1440-SPD02-01RB module is used to measure rotor acceleration, speed, and top speed, and it can also detect zero speed, reversed rotation, or locked rotor conditions. This module is also used as a component of the XM Electronic Over-speed Detection System.
The configurations control how the 1440-SPD02-01RB module calculates the acceleration, speed, and peak measurements. The dual-channel mode is the default mode. This mode uses the two sensors independently to execute two distinct sets of acceleration, speed, and peak speed measurements. The single redundant channel mode, on the other hand, uses one of the two sensors to perform the acceleration, speed, and peak speed measurements. This module then automatically shifts to the second (redundant) sensor when a tachometer or transducer fault is detected on the operational sensor. Lastly, the reverse rotation mode uses two sensors to monitor the speed and direction of a single shaft. These two sensors should not be mounted on the same phase, as this allows the rotational direction to be determined by monitoring which sensor the shaft keyway accesses first.
