The Allen-Bradley 1609-PSB1 industrial switch is a service bypass switch or SBP that has been designed and manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. This specific bypass switch is an accessory for the different Uninterruptible Power Supplies or UPS modules that are available in the Allen-Bradley 1609 series. This service bypass switch has been designed to operate with the double conversion online UPS modules, specifically with those that operate with a rating of 16 kVA. Since it is intended to operate with 16 kVA, when it is installed with loads higher than 3 kVA, hardwiring is necessary. The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1609-PSB1 service bypass switch is intended to be used in a controlled environment. This means that there are established specifications that must be met to ensure proper operation the with the UPS. These specifications consist of a temperature that must not exceed the 40 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity range of 0 to 95 percent without any condensation.

The Allen-BradleyRockwell Automation 1609-PSB1 service bypass switch's installation process begins by setting it in a rack. If the switch is going to be hardwired, further instructions must be followed before screwing it into the rack. The SBP can also be wall-mounted, and to do this correctly, a top screw and a bottom screw need to be attached to a wall stud. It is also possible that an expandable wall anchor will be needed to mount the switch to the wall. Another mounting option is the tower mounting option. If the Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1609-PSB1 service bypass switch is being installed to an online UPS, this UPS needs to be in its automatic bypass mode before the bypass switch is rotated. The inlets or outlets of the switch and the UPS must not be modified, and the plugs and receptacles of both equipment should match.
