The Allen-Bradley 1788-EN2DN is an Ethernet to DeviceNet linking device that allows seamless connection of information and control level network to with the device-level network. This linking device may be used to function as a gateway allowing programming, configuration, control or data collection to be implemented over the converted protocol. It may also act as bridge or router between ethernet enabled controllers connected in the ETehrnet network and devices and DeviceNet enabled devices connected in the DeviceNet network to interact as if they are connected on a common communication network.

The linking device enables DeviceNet master capability, allowing the system to connect up to 63 DeviceNet slave devices. This linking device has a local memory for storage of data from both of the communication networks, allowing sharing of data, for reading and writing of I/O tables.

The 1788-EN2DN is represented as a single device in the network. This linking device is designed with user-friendly and simple configuration, for facilitating transparent and simple to monitor of data flow on both directions.

DHCP server 2.3.2 or later may also be used for configuration of the device’ IP address.

The 1788-EN2DN supports DIN rail mounting and requires a power supply input of 12-30VDC with nominal rating of 24VDC. It has an open-type enclosure which means that this linking device must be installed inside an enclosure that provides adequate protection.

The 1788-EN2DN is an EtherNet/IP-to-DeviceNet linking device that is designed and manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation. This linking module can transform the data available on the different types of networks that operate with different protocols such as DeviceNet and EtherNet. It can support up to 63 DeviceNet nodes and can send data over the TCP/IP protocol with this module.

The 1788-EN2DN linking module requires a 24 Volts DC power supply with 100 mA of current available. It can operate without expected errors at temperatures between 0 and 60 degrees Celsius and at altitudes of lower than 2000 meters. The dimensions of the module are 60 millimeters x 200 millimeters x 48 millimeters. In the top part of the 1788-EN2DN linking module, there are 2 D-Code M12 ports for Ethernet connections. The EtherNet connection can be established through either one or both of them. For the DeviceNet connection, there are 2 mini-style DeviceNet connectors (DIN-male, and DOUT-female) located in the middle of the unit. The DeviceNet network cables should only be connected when the power to the linking devices is off. In the lower section of the EtherNet/IP-to-DeviceNet linking module, power and USB connectors are located. This network connecting device is ODVA conformance tested to EtherNet/IP and DeviceNet specifications. It is c-UL-us, CE, KC, and RCM certified.
