The Allen-Bradley 1788-EN2DNROM linking device is an IP 67 rated Ethernet/IP-to-DeviceNet linking device. It is used to connect control level networks to device-level networks. The 1788-EN2DNROM linking device enables complete DeviceNet master capability and therefore up to 63 DeviceNet slave devices can be connected to a single Ethernet/IP interface. The 1788-EN2DNROM linking device can be used as either a router/bridge which connects an Ethernet network to a DeviceNet network and as a gateway between control level and device level networks for the purposes of device configuration, data collection, or control. The 1788-EN2DNROM linking device supports multiple Ethernet/IP features, including an integrated web server, beacon-based DLR, 16 Class 3 connections, 21 Class 1 connections, and 32 Class 0 connections. The supported DeviceNet features include the master/scanner functionality, the slave/adapter functionality, the autoscan functionality, the quick connect functionality, and the I/O slave messaging.

The logic module onboard the 1788-EN2DNROM linking device requires a 24 Volts DC SELV / PELV power supply with a maximum of 100 milliamps of current draw. The power supply required for the DeviceNet network is 24 Volts DC SELV/PELV with a maximum of 20 milliamps of current draw. The wiring category is Category 3 on the USB ports, Category 2 on the power ports, and Category 2 on the communication ports. The device enclosure meets the IP 67 and NEMA 4/4X protection rating requirements. The recommended temperature ranges for device storage and operation are from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius and 0 to 60 degrees Celsius, respectively. The relative humidity range is from 5 to 95%. To prevent damage from ESD (electrostatic discharge), Allen-Bradley recommends taking several precautions while working on the device, including touching a grounded object to discharge all static, the use of an approved grounding strap, creating a static-safe workstation, and avoiding touching pins and connectors on the circuit boards.
