The 1788-MCHKR is a Mediachecker device that is used for identifying cable abnormalities and measure cable lengths different physical mediums used in implementing industrial protocols. This battery operated, portable device can be used to examine ControlNet cables, DeviceNet cables, Data Highway Plus (DH+), Remote I/O and Ethernet cables.
This device is ideally for maintenance and troubleshooting use as it only require a single manpower to test different cables. This mediachecker device checks for split pair or incorrect pairing, miswiring, shorted and open wires on all type of twisted pair cables and Coaxial cables used for Ethernet.
The 1788-MCHKR is delivered as a package that is composed of a carrying case, One (1) resistive adapter cable identifier with a female DB9 connector, Interface cables and adapters, documentation and pair of 1.5VDC alkaline batteries.
This MediaChecker has a Two (2) liner, Sixteen (16) character LCD display. All information related to the device operation is displayed in this output interface. It also has Enter, Up, Down and Setup intended for user interaction and configuration. It also has a rotary backlight adjustment wherein backlight can be set to Turn On and Off or automatically after Sixty (60) seconds.
This device has Four (4) operating modes, specifically OFF, Test, Length, and Wire Map. OFF position deactivates the device, saving battery energy. Test mode examines the attached cable and evaluates the cable by providing a pass or fail summary. Length display the cable length in units of meters or feet and test for anomalies. Wire map is used to display wiring connections such as short and open connection or split pair.
The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1788-MCHKR device is supplied as a complete kit which includes a carrying case, one resistive adapter cable identifier with a female DB9 connector, interface cables and adapters, 1 user manual, a single reference card, and 2 AA alkaline batteries. Note that the batteries have a voltage of 1.5 Volts DC each. To prevent damaging the 1788-MCHKR device and to avoid fires, electric shock, and user injury, the MediaChecker device should not be connected to any telephone inputs, equipment, or systems. Additionally, a voltage of over 25 Volts DC should not be applied to any input on the 1788-MCHKR device. The MediaChecker device has input protection circuitry. Therefore, before connecting the 1788-MCHKR device to a cable, it should first be turned on. The Allen-Bradley 1788-MCHKR device has a crystal liquid display (LCD) that displays 16 characters in 2 lines. When there’ more information than can be displayed on 2 lines, an up or down arrow appears on the left side of the display.
