The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1788CN2DNCC linking module is a ControlNet to DeviceNet linking device that is conformally coated. It is an advanced version of the older Allen-Bradley 1788CN2DN linking module that has conformally coated parts to be able to withstand harsh working conditions. The 1788CN2DNCC linking module can connect a ControlNet network with a DeviceNet network in PLC-based systems that include the PLC-5, ControlLogix, or SLC 500 controllers manufactured by Allen-Bradley. This tool has a part that includes sensors and field devices and another part that includes controllers. The 1788CN2DNCC linking module has 2 main functions – to support closed-loop control with simplified feedback signal acquisition and to speed-up device configuration and status monitoring. It reduces the complexity of connecting DeviceNet input and output devices and sensors with ladder programs by forming internal structures that hold status, input, and output data that are much faster and available to PLC program execution mechanisms.
The 1788CN2DNCC linking device is mountable to a 35-millimeter DIN rail, and it is supplied with 24 Volts DC voltage. The module has one ControlNet port and one DeviceNet port with rotary switches to set the node address for both networks. There are also LED indicators to show the current status of both networks and one module status LED that glows steady green when the module is fully operational and red if any fault is detected.
