The 1791-24A8 is a Remote I/O compatible module. This module is a Discrete I/O block that is manufactured by Allen-Bradley. It has a compact and self-contained assembly with built-in Remote I/O interface in adapter mode, Power supply and embedded input and output channels.
The 1794-24A8 connects to a PLC2, PLC3 and PLC5 controller family via the embedded RIO interface. This built-in interface must be configured as a Remote I/O scanner. Similarly, the 1791-24A8 may be used with SLC500 controller via the 1747-SN Remote I/O scanner.
This module features embedded channels composed of Twenty-Four (24) 120VAC input channels with input voltage range of 79-132VAC. It also has Eight (8) 120VAC output channels with output voltage range of 20-132VAC.
Th 1791-24A8 supports standard Remote I/O baud rates such as 57.6K, 115.2K and 230.4K baud rate while remote I/O distance that can be covered based on the configured baud rate are10,000 cable-feet for 57.6k; 5000 cable-feet for 115.2K and 2500 cable-feet for 230.4 K.
When connecting this module to the appropriate controller, recommended cable for use is Belden 9463 cable, a Three- wire cable with Blue, Clear and Shield wire. This cable is sometimes referred to as the Belden Blue Hose wire.
When connected in daisy-chain topology, the last node must be installed with a terminating resistor. This resistor closes the Remote I/O loop and signals the last node of the network. It not installed; intermittent communication can be experienced. Resistor values vary in Two (2) values, 82 Ohm and 150 Ohm terminating resistor.
