* The Allen Bradley 1791-IOBX has been discontinued by the manufacturer, however we specialize in obsolete parts and can likely still supply surplus and/or refurbished replacement 1791-IOBX units instead of migration.
The 1791-IOBX is an I/O module block manufactured by Allen Bradley of Rockwell Automation. It contains 64 sink input channels and 64 source output channels. It consists of many self-contained, small I/O devices with supplied power, various signal conditioning circuitry, input/output connections, and an interface for programmable control. It has an input/output status LED array and separate LED indicators to indicate Power, Active, Communication, and Fuses. Pushbuttons are provided for selecting the display for either input or output. Additionally, a rack address switch, a termination register switch, and configuration switches are provided on the device. This configuration switch could be used to set I/O groups, last state, last rack, transmission rate, rack address, and processor restart lockout. The 1791-IOBX also has 4 separate, removable, 37-pin terminal blocks mounted on either side. In addition, one more non-removable terminal block is provided for connecting the I/O module to external 24 Volts DC power. The 1791-IOBX is a very efficient I/O module that provides the functionality of the I/O module, I/O rack, adapter, and power supply, in a single unit.
To operate the device, use a 24 Volt DC source at a 300mA current rating. This leads to a maximum heat dissipation rate of 86.2 BTU/hour and a power dissipation of 25.2 Watts. The 1791-IOBX has the dimensions 156.21 X 334 X 43.7 millimeters. Connections are to be made with 14 gauge stranded wire with maximum insulation of 1.2 millimeters. Operation of the device is advised between 0 to 60 degrees Celsius while storage is advised between -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. It is essential to note that while making the connections, the input is to be connected to left side terminals while the output is to be connected to right side terminals. Remote I/O link connections are to be made with RIO Belden 9463 cable. While making the connections it is also important to remember to always wire the blocks in order. Never wire the blocks in a parallel way, and if the I/O module is the last block in the series, use of the terminator register is a must.
