The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1791-IOVX I/O module is a block I/O module with 128 total input and output points. The 1791-IOVX is manufactured by a unit of Rockwell Automation called Allen Bradley. This unit has 64 sourcing inputs and 64 sinking outputs. In the 1791-IOVX block I/O module are offered many small, self-contained I/O devices with power supply, Input/Output connections, interface for programmable control, and signal conditioning circuitry. On the 1791-IOVX device, indicators are available for indicating Power, Active, Fuse, and Communication signals. Another LED array is provided to view input/output status. With the help of push buttons, display for input or output can be selected. Additional termination register switches, a rack address switch, and configuration switches are provided. The configuration switches help in setting I/O group, rack address, baud rate, last rack, last state, and process restart lockout. The 1791-IOVX has removable, four separate 37-pin terminal blocks to connect the remote I/O. Additionally, for connecting to an external 24 Volt DC supply, another non-removable terminal block is provided. This device, in addition to having the functionality of an I/O module, has also other functionalities of I/O rack, adapter, and a power supply.
Use of a 24 Volt DC power supply at the current rating of 300 mA is advised. The maximum rated power dissipation of the device is 25.2 Watts and thermal dissipation rate is 86.2BTU/hour. The dimensions of 1791-IOVX are 156.21 X 334 X 43.7 millimeters. Make all connections using a stranded gauge 14 wire with 1.2 millimeters maximum of insulation. The 1791-IOVX can be stored between -40 to 85 degrees Celsius but must be operated only between 0 to 60 degrees Celsius. Connect the output on the right side and the input on the left side terminals always. It is highly advised to make all remote I/O link connections using a RIO Belden 9463 cable. While wiring, never wire the blocks in parallel, but always in series. Remember to use a termination register if the I/O module block is the last block in the system.
