The Allen-Bradley 1791D-16V0 is a 16 sourcing input base module that belongs to the CompactBlock I/O Digital product line. It has a built-in DeviceNet network adapter and power supply. This module can support up to one (1) analog or digital compact I/O expansion block. It is also well-suited for PLC, SLC, or SoftLogix programmable controllers. Having a compact size, the 1791D-16V0 is able to fit into narrow areas and shallow enclosures. Its off-state current is at 1.5 mA (5 Volts of DC at maximum) while its on-state current is at 11 mA (30 Volts of DC at maximum). The DeviceNet power for this module is at 11 25 Volts DC.

All CompactBlock I/O modules including the 1791D-16V0 are powered by DeviceLogix Smart Component Technology. It allows simple, local control functions for quicker sense-to-actuation processes. They are stand-alone 24 Volt DC products that communicate through a DeviceNet link. CompactBlock I/O modules are required to be installed in a subsidiary enclosure. Base modules including the 1791D-16V0 are furnished with 4-16 I/O points while expansion modules are furnished with 16 I/O points. These modules can cause electrostatic discharges which may result in abnormal operation and internal damage. So, following the set guidelines when handling these modules is highly advised.

The 1791D-16V0 has a Logic Status Indicator that is color based to provide a diagnostic readout. Solid green means that logic is enabled while flashing green indicates that logic is enabled while local forces are being applied at the same time. No color/off sign signifies that the logic is disabled. This module also comes with a detachable screw-clamp terminal strip which makes it easier to change an I/O block even without rewiring.
