The 1791D-16V0X module is an input expansion module that has been designed and manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation in the CompactBlock I/O 1791D series. It has 16 sourcing inputs that are divided into 2 groups of 8 and it has a DeviceNet adapter. The isolation voltage ratings of the 1791D-16V0X input expansion module are 500 Volts AC of I/O to DeviceNet isolation, 500 Volts AC of I/O group to group isolation, and 500 Volts AC of I/O group to logic isolation. It is protected by an enclosure with an IP 20 environmental protection rating. The 1791D-16V0X input expansion module can operate at 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and it can be transported and stored at -40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit.

The 1791D-16V0X is CompactBlock I/O module fabricated by the Allen-Bradley Division of Rockwell Automation. It belongs to the family 1791D CompactBlock I/O module which has I/O circuits, a power supply which is built in, and a DeviceNet I/O adapter which is also built in. This device could be used efficiently near some actuator or sensor where there are many I/O blocks distributed in a limited space. It features a 10 to 30 Volts DC power supply which helps in accommodating a broad range of voltages and power supplies from the network. The 1791D-16V0X has a NEMA type 1+ input which makes it highly compatible with various kinds of sensors. The maximum communication rate of the device is 500 Kbps for a distance of 100 meters. Additionally, it has a protection feature for output short-circuits, which help in the case of accidentally incorrect wiring. As the I/O block could be easily placed in close proximity to a sensor or actuator, this also lowers the cost of the additional wiring. Being a compact I/O module, this device does not require any additional power supplies or an adapter.

The 1791D-16V0X module could be easily used with SLC, PLC or any SoftLogix controller, and could also be a slave in a master/slave situation. It can be chosen whether to exchange data in a cyclic, polled or change-of-state connection. Use an external 24 Volt DC power supply, independent of the network, for the inputs and outputs. One could mount the I/O module along with the expansion module on a DIN rail or on a panel. It can also be mounted either horizontally or vertically. The operating temperature for the device is between 0 to 60 degrees Celsius. To make connections, use gauge 14 stranded wire with maximum insulation of 3/64 inches. The power supply rating for an expansion device is 5 Volts DC at a current of 100 mA. Being incredibly compact in size, this I/O could be installed anywhere to connect to a sensor/actuator and control unit.
