The MVI69-GEC module is a generic ASCII Ethernet interface module. It is developed by ProSoft Technology and it is designed to allow Allen-Bradley CompactLogix and MicroLogix processors to interface with ASCII devices over the TCP/IP network. Compatible devices could be ASCII instruments with integrated Ethernet connections through a thin server to existing ASCII devices. The MVI69-GEC module contains 5 servers and clients. This feature permits the transmission and reception of data between Allen-Bradley processors and the attached devices. The module is developed under license from Allen-Bradley and it uses proprietary backplane technology. The MVI69-GEC module supports the MicoLogix and ControlLogix 1500 LRP controllers except for the 1769-QBFC1B, 1769-L18x, and the 1769-L16x modules. It requires a single-slot in a 1769 backplane for installation.

The MVI69-GEC module is recognized as an I/O module and it can access processor RAM for data transfer between itself and the processor. The typical applications for the module include printer drive, barcode scanner, legacy ASCII protocol connections, weight scale interface, and terminal port evaluation applications. Items included in the MVI69-GEC module shipment are one 6-foot RS-232 cable and one RJ-45 to DB-9 male cable for each port. The Ethernet application port supports 10/100 Base-T with 1500 Volts RMS electrical isolation and A broadcast storm resiliency of less than or equal to 5000 ARP frames per second. The module configuration port supports the RS-232 protocol and it has an RJ-45 interface. The LED indicators provide power, module, error status, and configuration port/Ethernet port activity status. The current load of the module is 800 milliamps at 5 Volts DC. The operating temperature range is from 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
