The Allen-Bradley 5069-L3100ERMS2 is a Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 rated Compact GuardLogix controller. This device is particularly a Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) that comes with integrated safety. This controller is capable of communicating with standard and safety I/O devices through Allen-Bradley’s Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) over Ethernet I/P communication network.

This controller supports 31 standard task wherein, a single task may have up to 1000 programs using all event triggers. To program standard tasks, appropriate programming languages are Ladder Diagram (LD), Structured Text (ST), Function Block Diagram (FBD), and Sequential Function Chart (SFC). To configure safety tasks, appropriate programming language is RLL partnered with the required additional safety application instructions including Add-On Instructions, Controller logging, Integrated motion, Drive Safety Instructions, Ladder Diagram (LD), Language switching and Export program components.

This controller supports installation of local and distributed I/O architecture. Up to 31 local I/O is supported while for distributed architecture, this depends on the number of ethernet I/P nodes supported by the controller. Combination of standard and safety I/O modules is also permitted to allow the controller perform standard program and safety program tasks. Specific with distributed I/O, this is implemented over using the embedded Ethernet communication interface. Topologies supported by the module include linear, star and DLR topologies. Up to 128 128,000 packets/second and 2000 messages/second is the I/O capacity and message rate capacity of this controller. Through the same ethernet interfaces, up to 180 Ethernet I/P nodes is supported and maximum of 32 socket interfaces is supported as well. The drive’s integrated motion over Ethernet is capable of up to 256 axes and 32 CIP drive axes.

The 2 Ethernet ports can handle Ethernet communication speeds of 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and 1 Gbps, and they need at least 1 IP address, depending on the mode they are used in. The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 5069-L3100ERMS2 Compact GuardLogix 5380 SIL 2 series controller can operate in either the Dual-IP Ethernet mode or the Linear/DLR Ethernet mode. In the Dual-IP mode, the controller needs to have 2 IP addresses, specifically 1 for each Ethernet port. In the Linear/DLR mode, the controller needs only 1 IP address that both Ethernet ports can use. The message rate capacity of the 5069-L3100ERMS2 Compact GuardLogix 5380 SIL 2 series controller is 2000 messages per second. This controller can also support up to 180 Ethernet/IP nodes at once, which is the highest node capacity that is available in the Compact GuardLogix 5380 SIL 2 series.
