The Allen-Bradley 5069-L340ERMS2 is a Compact GuardLogix controller from the 5380 CompactLogix product family. This is a Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) that is capable of implementing both standard and safety functionalities. Despite being a safety controller, this permits use of standard and safety I/Os for both local and distributed architectures.
In addition, this controller supports utilization of both standard and safety modules at the same time. As local I/O modules, up to 31 modules of any combination may be used. This may also be implemented in a distributed I/O network. With distributed I/O, the controller communicates over an Ethernet I/P communication adapter.
Communication with remote Ethernet adapters, integrated motion, industrial devices such as controllers, visualization and 3rd party systems are implemented over the Ethernet network which is enabled by the built-in dual Ethernet I/P interface. These ports can be sued to connect to Linear and star topologies which as simplex architecture and Device Level Ring (DLR) which is a redundant, high-availability architecture. Regardless of the architecture, these ports support 10 / 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps communication speed. Up to 90 ethernet I/P nodes are supported as well as 256 Motion axes and 20 CIP drive axes for motion over Ethernet may be implemented.
For safety application, only 1 task may be configured however, this task can handle up to1000 program using all available triggers. Similarly, up to 31 tasks may be configured for standard application. Embedded user memory is 4 MB for standard memory and 2 MB for safety memory.

The controller is certified according to standards such as the CE, C-Tick, UL, cULus, and ATEX standards. In regard to safety, the 5069-L340ERMS2 controller can reach a SIL CL2/PLd performance level and it features a faster reaction time. Also, the controller supports the Compact 5000 I/O safety modules and it has many integrated safety functions.

It may be a level lower compared to the 5069-L330ERMS3 however, this controller is just right for simple safety requirements.
