The 5069-L340ERP is a CompactLogix 5380 Process Controller. This controller is manufactured by Allen-Bradley that not only supports implementation of standard and stand-alone automation, it can also be used as Process Controller of the Plant PAx V 5.0 Distributed Control System (DCS) by Rockwell Automation. Being a Plant PAx compatible controller, this process controller is compatible in using the built-in process templates for faster configuration and engineering of the control system.

The 5069-L340ERP comes with a conformally coated hardware. This means that this controller is out-of-the box ready, for installation in harsh and corrosive environments as conformal coating add an extra layer of protection to the integrated circuits of the controller.

The embedded user memory of this controller amount to 4 MB and ships with a 2GB non-volatile memory provided by the 1784-SD2 Secure Digital (SD) card. This non-volatile is expandable up to 32 GB with the use of 1784-SDHC32. Other non-volatile cards compatible with this controller are 1784-SD1 (1 GB), 1784-SDHC8 (8 GB), and 9509-CMSDCD4 (4 GB) CodeMeter CmCard card.

For communication, the 5069-L340ERP is provided with Two (2) Ethernet interfaces and One (1) USB port. For industrial communication the Ethernet ports are used as it supports up to 100 m of communication which may be extended with the use of ethernet switches and media converters. Transmission rate supported by this communication protocol is 10 / Mbps (Fast Ethernet) and 1 Gbps (Gigabit) ethernet. Up to 90 Ethernet nodes is supported and 32 socket connections may be established. Supported topologies are linear, star and Device Level Ring (DLR) topologies. It is not intended for industrial communication application.

The 5069-L340ERP process module needs to use 2 Ethernet/IP addresses (1 for each Ethernet port) when it is being used in the Dual/IP operating mode, and it only needs 1 Ethernet/IP address when it is being used in the Linear/DLR operating mode. It can handle Ethernet speeds of 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, or 1 Gbps, but only in the full-duplex setup. The Allen-Bradley CompactLogix 5069 5069-L340ERP process module has an I/O capacity of 128,000 packets per second and its message rate capacity is 2000 messages per second. It can also support up to 32 socket interfaces at a time and up to 20 Ethernet/IP nodes at a time. The programming languages supported by the 5069-L340ERP process module include the Structured Text, Ladder Diagram, Sequential Function Chart, Function Block Diagram programming languages. It comes with 4 MB of built-in user memory, and this memory can be expanded by a variety of compatible expansion memory modules if necessary. The MOD Power voltage range of the 5069-L340ERP process module is 18 to 32 Volts DC and the maximum MOD Power current rating is 450 milliamps.
